Funerals of Compassion are highly skilled in arranging, planning, and conducting all types of Orthodox funerals – including Eastern and Greek variations – across Sydney.
Our highly experienced and attentive funeral directors will help you arrange a beautiful, respectful and memorable service, one that enables you and your family to celebrate the life of your loved one.
Whether you prefer a traditional or contemporary service, you can personalise every aspect of the service. This includes the order of events, location, music, floral arrangements, allocation of staff and vehicles, readings and more. Rest assured, your funeral arrangement will reflect your (or if known, the deceased’s) wishes and at a price you can afford.
While there are differing views in Orthodox Christianity, generally speaking, followers of the religion believe in living holy, Christ-like lives, and that the experience of being in God’s presence is different for everyone.
When the death of a person is imminent, a priest is brought in to hear their final confession and administer Holy Communion. After the death, the priest will lead those present through prayers to help release the soul. Cremation is strictly prohibited in the Eastern Orthodox Church; although, organ donation is gradually becoming accepted and considered one of the greatest gifts to give.
It is also common for friends and family to assist with embalming, in particular, dressing the deceased and placing sentimental items in the coffin.
At Funerals of compassion, we have a deep understanding of Orthodox Christianity, and the many customs and practices that take place. We listen to your ideas, offer expert advice and support, and take care of it all to make your life easier. This way, you and your family have the time, space, and energy to comfort one another in these challenging times.
Even after the funeral, the family will receive ongoing grief and bereavement support. Whether you’re struggling or just want someone to consult, our highly qualified grief counsellors are ready to help.
